Former national security advisor to Donald Trump, Michael Flynn made incredibly concerning comments at a QAnon conference regarding American democracy. While I usually avoid discussing QAnon and its followers on this blog, Michael Flynn was a person who once wielded immense power in U.S. government, and his comments should not be taken lightly.
At the conference ironically titled “For God and Country,” one participant asked General Flynn why what happened in Myanmar cannot happen in the United States, to which Flynn responded “no reason, I mean it should happen here.”
This comment is extremely chilling to lovers of democracy and freedom, which this conference’s attendees supposedly care about. A former U.S. general casually playing with the idea of a military-style coup in the United States, the supposed beacon of freedom to the world is simply reckless, and the cheers that encouraged him are chilling as well.
While Donald Trump encouraged his followers with the “big lie” that the election was stolen from him, resulting in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, it must be remembered that there are those in posts of power that are willing to do whatever it takes to tear American democracy apart from within.
From the killings of children as young as six to the arrest of journalists and political leaders, Michael Flynn, one of America’s greatest traitors openly states that democratically elected leadership in the U.S. should be thrown and replaced with military leadership with heavy censorship and high levels of violence toward civilians.
I fear that Michael Flynn knew exactly the extent of damage he was referring to in his casual comments, and this knowledge of the tragedy in Myanmar makes it even more chilling when he encourages such activity here.
